Shatta Wale Reacts to VGMA Controversy with Humor

Ghanaian dancehall artist, Shatta Wale, has once again sparked social media buzz with his reaction to a post about the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). In a lighthearted yet pointed response, the musician, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, shared a post that hinted at ongoing tensions between himself and the award scheme.

This viral post originated from a Facebook user named Azim Capaset, who issued a warning about any attempt to involve Shatta Wale’s fanbase, the Shatta Movement (SM), in the VGMA Scheme. The message reads, “Sammy if you try bring that VGMA tin for SM, we go beat you then sack you.” The statement, laced with humor and aggression, suggested that any effort to reconnect Shatta Wale with the awards could be met with strong resistance from his loyal fans.

In response, Shatta Wale quoted the post and laughed it off with, “Like abi Jon waaaaa😂😂😂😂 Nobody can scheme me!” His choice of words implied that he was fully aware of any perceived manipulations or attempts to include him in the VGMA conversation, and he was not falling for it.

This brings back memories of Shatta Wale’s long-standing issues with the VGMA. In 2019, he and his fellow dancehall artist Stonebwoy were banned from the awards following an on-stage altercation. Although Stonebwoy has since reconciled with the scheme, Shatta Wale has remained distant, often criticizing the organizers and questioning the credibility of the awards.

With his latest post, it’s clear that Shatta Wale still remains firm in his stance and he is not ready to be drawn back into the VGMA fold. However, his ability to handle the matter with humor shows his mastery of engaging his fanbase while keeping his brand intact.

Will the VGMA organizers attempt to bring him back, or will Shatta Wale continue to distance himself from the event? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—his fans are standing firmly behind him.
